When did Math become a foreign language?

Number Bonds, Tape Diagrams, Place Value Disks... if you haven't heard of these, how are you supposed to help your child in math?

Math itself, has not changed, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, fractions and shapes are still the same as when you went to school, the only thing that is difference is the way it is taught. When we went to school the focus was on procedure - the how; now the focus is first on the understanding - the why.

As hard as it is to resist showing your child "The way I learned it," it is important to do just that. One reason we focus on the understanding is to help students become better and more flexible thinkers..problem solvers!

Head over to the "Parent Tips" page for videos about Eureka Math and the different strategies and tools we use.

There is also a new book written for parents to help with understanding the way math is taught "Adding Parents to the Equation"

Please email me is you have any questions or want to set up a time to learn more about your child's math!
