The dreaded summer slide! We hear about it all the time, it is defined as "the tendency for students to lose some of the achievement gains they made during the previous school year" Usually this is talked about in literacy, but it can happen in math too! What can you do to help your students avoid this slide! The Summer math calendars that were sent home in June is one way. (you can click here to get to them if you still need it
Think about how much math you do during the day - see if your children can help you out - change a recipe, measure the ingredients, see if you have enough money to get that ice cream- how much change will you get back
We also had access to computer programs at Mulready - SplashMath for K - 2 and Math Facts Pro in grade 3 - 4. These programs are still available all summer. If you do not have your student's username and password you can contact me and I will do my best to get it for you. I will need your child 's name and their teacher this past year. Also, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will get back to you as soon as I can! Have a great summer and I look forward to seeing you all in the fall!!! Terri Buscemi
